So, let me start off by saying I am a big fan of this author's work. I loved everything about her books, the richly drawn characters, the fast-paced, intriguing plots, the right balance between steamy sex and riveting romance. So this book is not a bad book, it's just not as good as her other books. I read her Almato brothers series and I fumed, laughed and even shed a few tears, in other words, I was totally engrossed with the plot and the characters. I know a book is good when I start "talking back" to the characters, and I did plenty of talking with all three Amato brother books. This book has a really intriguing plot: what if a well connected political figure makes an arrangement with a high priced escort and essentially "buys" her services for three months: just sex, no relationship. Now we all know where this road is going, the couple, in spite of knowing the deal going into the relationship falls in love. But the thing is, I couldn't figure when or even if they fell in love. A few times they mentioned they thought they might be falling, but no one ever says the four letter word. And they fall in love based on what? 90% of their relationship was sex. Admittedly it was hot sex, but hot sex can't sustain a relationship. So while I do believe that people can change their life's course for love, given the plot in this story, I was not convinced these characters would make that move.
The book is an easy read, but the characters were inconsistent. The heroine is depicted as strong and independent but then she basically let's the hero treat her like a whore, albeit a high priced one. I wasn't sure I liked the hero, he seemed like a self centered douche in some parts of the book. I also thought the ending was unrealistic and it kind of left the reader hanging. I can't tell if this book is setting us up for a sequel or not and if it is, I'm not sure I'd buy it.
However, I loved the Almato brothers series so I will eagerly await the next book in that series.

Dark Paradise Montgomery Brothers Book 1 edition by Winter Renshaw Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really didn’t imagine that I’d fall head over heels for this book as much as I did. I worried about the connection to politics. But I had zero reason to worry. This novel kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. I didn’t want to stop reading but, alas, I had to in order to work. I adored the characters, the plot, the tiny glimpse into what a life in the political spotlight may be like. The dirty naughtiness that that is plaguing DC these days comes to life but in a less-sleazy way than in real life LOL. I loved it so much that I’m starting book 2 now!
This is a standalone book with no cliffhangers, in which me meet Camille and her mystery man. Camille is a highly paid escort in Washington D.C., who some would call a Sugar Baby. She just signed a three-month exclusivity agreement for a cool million dollars. On their first meeting, she enters a dark hotel room, just to be told she has to wear a blindfold and that she will not get to see his face at all.
He definitely seems to be younger than the men she is usually passed around, with a softer touch, sweeter lips and needs that are much fiercer. He says that the blindfold is to protect her from danger, but is he hiding something that puts her life at risk or is he just a major control freak.
Favorite Quote "The fantasy is always better than the reality."
**Complimentary Copy provided by Author for an honest review, but so good that I bought my own copy of it for my library.**
I was asked for an honest review of dark promises, and if you read my reviews before you know I always like to read books in order so I checked dark paradise out and honestly I am glad I did. I read some other reviews while looking and some said it is predictable, and I didn't think so. The suspect actually surprised me, when they were revealed, and then yeah I could see it; but not at first. I will tell the scenes were steamy, and when Ronan pulls out the stops on Camile wow. Now to read dark promises.
I actually read Dark Promises first and decided I needed to go back and read Dark Paradise to get Ronan and Camille’s story.
Ronan is completely obsessed with Camille, but being the President’s son comes with complications. He’s not in a position where he can trust women, so he buys Camille for three months. Camille is an expensive escort in the Washington area. She is blindfolded for their times together and has no idea who Ronan is. The more time they spend together, the closer they get. It’s only a matter of time before his identity is revealed.
Over all I liked the story, but I wish we were told more about the tell all and how it damaged Busy. That woman was something, and not a good something. It just kinda ended and I would have liked a little more happy ending at the ending.
Camille Buchanan is a highly paid, highly sought after modern day courtesan in Washington D.C.. When her best friend, Araminta sets up a 7 figure liaison with a Washington power player, Camille has some reservations but cannot resist the pay day that could get her away from her D.C. life and closer to her dream of being in L.A..
Winter Renshaw weaves an interesting story of a woman doing what she wants to get to where she wants to be in life and a man so bogged down in responsibilities that he has to go to extremes to get something just for himself. Winter's Camille is a pragmatic, intelligent and open minded woman. She crafts herself to be what a man wants and makes no apologies for it. Camille, for all her worldliness, still manages to remain a bit naïve and emotional as she falls for the deception of a married senator. "John" , the client who demands blindfolds, is a conundrum as Ms. Renshaw gives hints as to who he is but the reader remains as in the dark as Camille.
Dark Paradise is a good story of political machinations and power. There are twists and turns as who is who and who is lying is peeked at and then revealed. Steamy encounters between Camille and John are erotic and well placed in this steadily paced book. A good read with strong characters and a real life take on the Washington D.C. underbelly.
